Dear Library Users!
We know that at first our Library can be a confusing and intimidating
place. This is an effort to allow you, AUA Papazian Library user,
to teach yourself how to find and evaluate information using the
Library's resources. Once you know the "tricks" to using
the Library, we hope you will find it a valuable tool while at AUA
and after you leave.
Frequently Asked Questions:
1. The book is not on the shelf, where could it be?
a) Please check for the following information in the GOPAC's
(Graphical Public Access Catalog)
Copy Information window:
· Status:
Must be In Collection.
· Location:
Must be Reading Room.
If the location is, either Computer Lab, LRC (Legal Resource Center),
USIS Library, or Brusov Institute, that means the book is not in
the Papazian Library.
If the location is Reference, ask the Reference desk Librarian
for the book. You need to present your Papazian Library Card or
any other Identification document for Reference Desk services.
Remember: you can not take the reference
books out of the library!
If the location is Textbook Reserve Shelf ask the circulation
desk Librarian for the book.
b) Please make sure that you copy the book's call # correctly.
c) Please check the tables and the small shelves between
the main bookshelves where the library patrons usually leave the
books after using them in the reading room.
d) Please ask the librarian to check for you the book tracks
and bookshelves in the circulation desk area.
2.What is a Trace Request?
This is another way to look for a missing book. Ask the circulation
desk librarian for the Trace Request form. The only
thing you need to do is to fill in the bibliographic information
of the book you need (such as call #, author, title, publication
year) and your ID #.
Within a week the librarians will trace the book. As soon as they
find the book they will inform you. If the librarians do not succeed
in their efforts, they will change the status of the book to Missing
3. What is to put a book On Hold?
The book has been checked out, but you still want to borrow it. What
should you do?
Copy the Item ID of the book from the Copy Information
window and ask the circulation desk librarian to put the book On
Hold. A book placed On Hold book can not be
renewed, or given to another patron. As soon as it is returned to
the library, you will get a phone call to come and pick it up. The
book will be on hold for 3 weeks from the date you place it On
Hold.
Remember: You can put On Hold only
one book at a time!
Please, feel free to ask the librarians for help.
